Description |
Bi-fold theater flyer from Song of the South's first theatrical release. Front cover is magenta duotone, inside spread is cyan duotone. This particular flyer is stamped "Essex Theater, Essex New York, Sunday [and] Monday, March 2 [and] 3". The paper is a very thin, almost newsprint. It's remarkable someone hung onto this! |
Notes |
It is believed that this flyer came from the Essex Theater located at 2700 Broadway at 103rd Street, New York, N.Y. 10025. The Essex Theatre was built in 1913 and had 610 seats. Throughout most of its life, the theatre showed second- and third-run double bills (which would explain the March 2-3, 1947 date, since the movie was released on November 12, 1946). In 1988 the theatre was sold and, after a mild renovation, the name was changed to the Columbia Cinema. The theatre closed in 1993. Source |
